Head of Strategy & Planning

You will primarily be responsible for developing brand, marketing & communication and creative campaign strategies and plans for clients, but will also prepare market and industry reports, and Example-branded white-papers to support new business and show the agency’s knowledge and leadership. Furthermore you will take an active role in setting Example’s strategic thinking and approach, while also ensuring executional work that is delivered (by the Creative Team and Client Services Team) off the back of your strategies and plans aligns and remains on-strategy/on-plan. 

Day-to-day you will:

  • Conduct research and gather insights
  • Develop insightful brand strategies, marketing & communications strategies, and campaign strategies
  • Work with our Client Services Team to turn these strategies into detailed marketing & communication plans (inclusive of timelines, critical paths, budgets, requirements scopes and resourcing allocations)
  • Work with our Creative Director and creative partners to help bring strategies and plans to-life
  • Guide our Creative Team in their interpretation of our brand strategies, helping them to develop bespoke brand identities 
  • Work with the Creative Team and Client Services Team to develop pointed marketing & communication strategies and creative campaign strategies
  • Ensure any executional work delivered (by the Client Services Team and any external third parties) remains on-track with the client’s strategy
  • Prepare market and industry reports, and Example-branded white papers to support new business and show the agency’s knowledge and leadership
  • Lead agency-wide strategic thinking and approach, while also knowledge sharing and upskilling the broader Example Team on strategic thinking 

As a senior and experienced strategist, you will balance creative, analytical and strategic thinking. You will be ever-hungry to find the previously unseen ‘white space’ for brands and businesses, have your finger on the pulse of changes in consumer behaviour and trends, be methodical in your strategic approach, and be articulate in your ability to succinctly translate findings and recommendations to clients. You will dig deep to find human-centred insights, emotional drivers and disruptive opportunities to own, compiling all findings and recommendations into easy-to-understand and succinct brand, marketing & communication and creative campaign strategies and plans. 

To succeed in this role you must have an insatiable curiosity, combined with the ability to translate intelligence and ideas. You will be someone who loves research as much as storytelling. As such, it is important that you possess a proven ability to analyse data and uncover patterns, while being able to append those insights with your strong understanding of Australian (and periodically New Zealand) market consumer behaviour and trends, and then be able to communicate your findings and recommendations in a logical form. 

You will have the guidance and support of the CEO and Managing Director, and you will be encouraged to work collaboratively with all other agency staff. That being said, you will be expected to lead / own / love your clients and work deliverables, delivering consistently high quality work with confidence and proficiency.  

REQUIREMENTS (experience)

  • 10+ years experience working in a similar strategy and planning role (agency experience and/or experience working with food & drink, travel, entertainment and lifestyle brands is a mandatory requirement)
  • Proven experience in leading research and insights gathering (both qualitative and quantitative), and developing brand and marketing strategies (mandatory requirement)
  • Comprehensive understanding of Australian market consumer behaviour and trends, and well-versed in different marketing & communication channels and platforms (mandatory requirement)
  • Fluent and articulate English speaker and writer, and confident, straightforward presenter that is able to question, challenge and inspire others (mandatory requirement)
  • Flexible, resourceful and nimble researcher that approaches all tasks with a challenger mentality, and can uncover truths anywhere, with a unique ability to see things in data and insights that others can’t (mandatory requirement)
  • Excellent brief-writer, with the ability to communicate and translate data and insights into logical frameworks that provoke creative thinking
  • Rigorous, detail-oriented and highly-organised approach to managing work and deadlines
  • Relentless quest to produce and deliver excellence (work output and results)
  • Proactive self-starter while also being a team player

PR Strategist

This is an exciting and integral senior role within Example; one which comes with a lot of accountability, as well as opportunity to flex your PR and communication muscles. You will work on a mix of integrated retainer clients, as well as lead PR-focused projects.

You will be responsible for establishing strong, long-term client relationships and building their trust in our capability as a reputable and leading brand, sales & marketing and public relations agency. Leading Example’s PR services offering (inclusive of: strategy, planning and execution), you will take a hands-on approach to work delivery, as well as work collaboratively with the broader Example team and third-party partners.  

Day-to-day you will:

  • Work with our Head of Strategy to develop insightful brand and PR strategies
  • Work with our Creative lead to develop strategy-aligned creative ideas
  • Translate upfront strategy and ideas into robust, integrated PR plans that harness earned media, influencer marketing, and media and brand partnerships (inclusive of timelines, critical paths, budgets, requirements scopes and resourcing allocations)
  • Oversee delivery of PR related executional work, including managing in-house teams (PR Specialists) and external third-party suppliers
  • Drive best in class work across strategy, planning and execution
  • Provide strategic client consultancy, cultivating strong client relationships and developing trust
  • Support new business development and agency growth

Aside from leading Example’s PR services for clients, you will also work with the broader Example team to strengthen our overall agency offering to all clients, and where possible cross-sell all agency services. You will play a key role in supporting the promotion of Example and contributing to new business.

To succeed in this role you must be highly organised, commercially minded, personable, a strategic and creative thinker and strong planner, be a self-starter, able to multitask, fastidious with deadlines and have an eye for detail. Experience developing and executing integrated PR strategies and plans is a mandatory requirement. Agency experience and/or experience working with food & drink, travel, entertainment and lifestyle brands will be seen as favourable.

  • Work with our Head of Strategy & Planning to develop / oversee the delivery of insightful brand strategies, marketing strategies and marketing plans
  • Work with our Creative Director to develop / oversee the delivery of strategy-aligned creative executional ideas
  • Oversee delivery of any sales & marketing executional work, including briefing / managing both in-house teams (e.g. specialists, strategists, creatives, etc) and external third-party suppliers (e.g. media buying agencies, printers, content creators, etc)
  • Report on all sales & marketing executional activity and results
  • Provide strategic client consultancy, cultivating strong client relationships and developing trust

Aside from leading Example’s sales & marketing services offering for clients, you will also work with the broader Example team to strengthen our overall agency service offering to all clients, and where possible cross-sell all agency services. You will also play a role in supporting the marketing of Example (promoting the agency) and contributing to new business (enquiries, pitches, presentations, etc).

To succeed in this role you must be highly organised, commercially minded, personable, a strategic thinker and strong planner, be a self-starter, able to multitask, fastidious with deadlines and have an eye for detail. Experience executing sales & marketing strategies / plans and a comprehensive understanding of sales & marketing channels and tactics is a mandatory requirement.   • Comprehensive understanding of sales & marketing channels and tactics (mandatory requirement) - first hand experience using a CRM and email marketing platform(s), online training tools, Facebook Business Manager / Facebook Ads, Google Ads and Google Analytics will be seen as favourable, even though you will not necessarily be expected to use these tools
  • Fluent and articulate English speaker and writer, and confident presenter (mandatory requirement)
  • Rigorous, detail-oriented and highly-organised approach to managing work and deadlines
