Sitting comfortably in the category of ‘airport hotel dining’, in a suburb that by no means represented
the city it lives in, the recently rebranded Novotel needed some love.

Brief.
Example was tasked to develop a hospitality venue concept that included direction on styling, interiors, food and beverage offering, and launch ideas, as well as an all new brand identity for the space.
Solution.
We developed a venue concept and brand identity that aimed to redeem the ‘airport hotel’ category reputation. Considering these hotels tend to be the first or last place our guests visit in the city, shy of the airport, we felt the category had a missed opportunity for showcasing Sydney’s real personality. Whether guests were passing through or were on their way out of our city, we wanted to leave a lasting ‘Sydney’ impression on them – by bringing the best Sydney has to offer beyond the tourist traps, curated by true locals — with nods to its many diverse and colourful suburbs such as Haberfield, Marrickville, the CBD, Surry Hills and Bondi Beach. Partnering with local artisans, artists and ideologies, The Marke served as an all day dining destination, gift store and events hub.
